Heat transfer testing rig

An industry funded heat transfer test facility is in use by AGGAT researchers to collect heat transfer data from chemically engineered geothermal brine accurately controlled for its composition. The results of this work will provide a reliable and traceable relationship between brine composition and heat transfer characteristics of the system. Further experimental investigations are also planned with the test rig where sample tubes will be inserted in test sections analysing effects of different materials and different surface treatments on heat transfer characteristics as well as surface effects such as corrosion, fouling/scaling and/or erosion. A field test rig is also established at a geothermal site in the Taupo Volcanic Region for the testing of materials and their performance in a live geothermal brine environment.
